Wren Puzzles is a small, independent website of free puzzles with large, clear letters and no timers.

What the site is for

Puzzles are a pleasant way to keep the mind busy, but many puzzle websites have small print, busy pages and countdown clocks. Wren Puzzles is meant to be calm and easy to read: big letters you can make bigger, a light or dark look, nothing to sign up for, and no rush. You can play on a phone, tablet or computer, or print a puzzle and do it with a pencil.

How the puzzles are made

Every puzzle is made by a program from word lists and pictures chosen for this site. The same day always gives the same daily puzzle, so friends and family can do the same one. Before a puzzle appears, the program checks it. In a word search, every listed word must be in the grid exactly once, and no rude word may appear by accident among the other letters. In a nonogram, the program must be able to solve the puzzle row by row and column by column without guessing, which proves there is exactly one answer. Automated tests check thousands of puzzles whenever the puzzle code, the word lists or the pictures change.

Built with AI

Wren Puzzles is built and maintained with the help of AI. The pages, the word lists, the pictures and the code that makes and checks the puzzles are written with Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. AI can still get things wrong.
